When East Coaster Meagan Micozzi moved to Arizona, she found her culinary curiosity piqued like never before by the unique intersection of Mexican, Native American and American cuisines. Inspired by local foods, flavors and ingredients, Meagan had a new mission: interview native home cooks, research recipes, and then spend days in her kitchen perfecting techniques until she had them just right.
She launched the Scarletta Bakes blog (her husband nicknamed her “Scarletta” because of her tendency to blush) in 2011 as a way to document her adventures in the kitchen. The blog quickly drew thousands of readers from all over the world, who sought out Meagan’s innovative take on modern southwestern cuisine.
Now Meagan has prepared a collection of all new recipes in her first cookbook. There are much-loved favorites like Navajo Fry Bread, Salsa Verde, and Cajeta (Mexican caramel sauce) as well as imaginative offerings that showcase Meagan’s own quirky take on Southwestern fare including Vegan Puffy Tacos with Cumin-Spiced Hummus, Pomegranate & Lime Chicken Thighs, and even Peanut Butter & Jelly Empanadas.
Her recipes have been featured on The Huffington Post, The Kitchn, Gourmet, Bon Appétit, and her blog was named a ‘Site We Love’ by Saveur.
She resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.
