ABOUT THE BOOK
For centuries, faith and science have been framed as opposing forces—one rooted in spiritual mystery, the other in empirical discovery. This tension has led many who grew up believing in God to question how their love of science fits into their faith, often feeling forced to choose between the two.
But what if they are actually two sides of the same coin? Can creation be true and also the Big Bang? Can scientific theory enrich, rather than dismiss religious faith?
In The Call of Wonder, author Brian Cranley, who holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and a masters of divinity in philosophy and theology, takes readers on a journey to rediscover the deep connection between scientific discovery and the God of ancient wisdom. Using a blend of historical fact, fable, and time-tested insights, he reveals how God uses the same wonder that fuels scientific discovery to draw us towards Himself.
Cranley shows how God has written His divine attributes into the findings of modern science including the Big Bang, evolutionary theory, and our understanding of the human mind, with each miracle of science revealing the same centuries-old image of God in their own unique way.
Far from the sensationalism of modern media, Cranley explores how true wonder emerges when we contemplate the vastness of space, the intricate beauty of nature, and the deepest mysteries of existence. Cranley shares a personal and thought-provoking exploration of how embracing wonder can bridge the gap between belief and reason, faith and fact, and explains how science and faith may be revealing the very same truths.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Throughout his life, Brian Cranley has been fascinated by the intersection of God and the “real world.”
This led him to earn a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering from Texas A&M University and later a masters of divinity from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. Today, he lives in the Texas Hill Country outside San Antonio with his family. When he’s not writing, you can find him running a thriving medical device business and spending time with his girls outdoors. In his free time, he continues his own search for wonder in the worlds of philosophy, theology, and science.

“The Call of Wonder will rocket you on a mind-bending tour of humanity’s consideration of faith, science, and our concepts of God and Creation. Brian Cranley helps us consider twin components of human nature: our thirst for the spiritual and our quest to understand the natural universe. Enjoy the ride.”
— Tom Jones, PhD, veteran NASA astronaut, planetary scientist; author of Space Shuttle Stories: Firsthand Astronaut Accounts from All 135 Missions
“What does the starry sky have to do with the human mind? The Call of Wonder deftly integrates ancient wisdom with the discoveries of modern science to shed light on how wonder leads us to truth. If you desire to understand reality—and yourself—more fully, pick up this book! It will leave you changed.”
— Dr. Sofia Carozza, postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital; published author in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Psychological Science
“Brian Cranley invites you to join Sophia, the personification of wisdom, on a beautiful journey from Athens to Jerusalem, from the beginning of the universe to Earth, from the origin of life to the human mind, from Plato to Aquinas, from the shores of the eternal ocean to your own backyard. This is a journey toward truth and wonder, a consilience of science and religion where we find that God is One, that God is Infinite, that God is Eternal, that God is Unknowable.”
