From national bestselling authors to Texas-based literary gems, the event celebrates the magic of storytelling, community, and creativity.

Since its inception in 1995, the Texas Book Festival has become one of the largest literary festivals in the country, and the 2024 edition is set to deliver a lineup that truly inspires. Headlining authors include cultural icons like Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey and bestselling author and journalist Malcolm Gladwell, along with an eclectic mix of other acclaimed writers. Whether you’re an avid reader, a budding writer, or someone simply seeking to be inspired, this year’s Texas Book Festival has something for everyone.

Speaking about the upcoming lineup for the 2024 Texas Book Festival, Literary Director Hannah Gabe shared, “This year’s Festival Weekend will feature a diverse ensemble of literary voices to engage readers of all ages.” The array of authors to be presented reflects the Festival’s mission to present voices that resonate across different genres, cultures, and ideas.

Ticketed Events with Malcolm Gladwell and Matthew McConaughey

While the Texas Book Festival is free and open to the public, two headlining events will require tickets. Both events offer attendees a chance to engage with two iconic authors and receive a signed copy of their latest works.

On Saturday, November 16, at 12:45 p.m., Malcolm Gladwell will discuss his forthcoming book Revenge of the Tipping Point at First Baptist Church. Known for his deep dives into human psychology and cultural phenomena, Gladwell is expected to share fresh perspectives on how trends and ideas gain momentum at this event.

On Sunday, November 17, at 4 p.m., Matthew McConaughey will be in conversation with filmmaker Richard Linklater at First Baptist Church. At this event, the actor will discuss the paperback release of Greenlights, his bestselling memoir filled with insights into his career, philosophy, and life journey. Both events cost $35 and include a signed copy of the author’s book. Tickets are available online, and these sessions are sure to be highlights of the Festival.

A Festival for All Ages

Alongside the big names, there’s a wide range of activities and programming designed for readers of all ages. Families can enjoy storytime sessions and interactive activities, while teens have their own programming tailored to their interests. Cooking demonstrations, poetry readings, and bilingual sessions in English and Spanish will also be part of the vibrant schedule.

For those who love a good panel discussion, the Festival offers a wealth of author panels and Q&A sessions, allowing readers to engage directly with their favorite writers. Attendees can explore various topics, from the art of storytelling to discussions on contemporary social issues. Expect lively and thought-provoking conversations that inspire imagination, empathy, and joy.

Moreover, visitors will have the chance to get up close and personal with authors through book signings. Whether it’s a favorite novel or a new release, there’s something magical about having a book signed by the author. Beyond the literary events, the Festival will feature exhibitor booths, food vendors, and a bustling atmosphere that brings the streets of Austin alive with the spirit of reading.

A Lasting Impact

Founded in 1995 by former First Lady Laura Bush and a group of passionate volunteers, the Texas Book Festival continues to grow in scope and impact. The Festival’s mission extends beyond just one weekend of literary celebration. Programs like Reading Rock Stars, which brings authors into Title I elementary schools, and Real Reads, focused on middle and high schools, ensure that the love of reading reaches Texas’ youth year-round. Texas Book Festival also provides grants to Texas libraries, helping sustain critical resources for communities throughout the state.

At its core, the Texas Book Festival celebrates literature’s power to connect, inspire, and challenge us. Readers and writers alike can always look forward to an unforgettable weekend of stories, creativity, and community when they attend the Texas Book Festival.
