ABOUT THE BOOK
Discovering who you were created to be is the great journey of your life.
We are consistently on a search for who we are. From an early age, we are told that we can be anyone that we want to be, but at the same time there are pressures all around to conform to other’s expectations. With more options available than ever before, defining our identity should be simple—yet we still seem to struggle with feeling lost or there is still something missing. The result is that we either settle for being someone that does not quite fit or we are endlessly redefining who we are.
The problem isn’t the pursuit of identity itself. This is the most consequential endeavour of our life. We will never be able to fully experience the full and authentic life we deeply desire, until we discover who we were meant to be. The challenge is that we are searching for our identity in all the wrong places.
Drawing on years of research in biblical theology and psychological identity development, Dr. Eric Moyer cuts through the noise to reveal the true “heart” of who we are. Challenging the cultural narratives that define us by our achievements, backgrounds, experiences, or even beliefs, he uncovers a deeper truth: our identity isn’t something we create—it’s something we discover.
Redeeming Identity: Restoring the Heart of God’s Design (January 2026) exposes the transformative principle that we were designed for a specific identity and purpose. With clarity and insight, Moyer provides a roadmap for moving beyond the exhausting work of self-invention to the liberating reality of becoming who you were always meant to be—a journey that impacts not just your sense of self, but every aspect of your life and eternity.

SUGGESTED INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
- Many younger people say they feel more anxious and uncertain about who they are than ever before. What insights from Scripture—and psychology —help address this rising identity anxiety?
- Digital culture encourages constant self-curation and comparison. What are some practical ways Christians can resist this pull and stay grounded in their God-given identity?
- You’ve said that many cultural conversations around identity start with us rather than with God—and that this gets the entire framework backwards. Why do you think that’s such a common mistake, even among people of faith?
- You describe today’s world as facing a “spiritual identity crisis.” How do you see that showing up in our culture, especially in the way people define themselves through things like personality types, careers, or online personas?
- In Redeeming Identity, you argue that knowing God’s character is essential to understanding who we are. Can you explain how that connection works in practice?
- The self-help industry promises self-discovery and fulfillment, yet many people still feel lost. Why do you think self-help often fails to reach the root of our identity struggles?
- You write that identity can’t be earned or adopted through culture, career, or even belief systems. What does it look like to rest in an identity that’s received rather than achieved?
- How can church leaders and ministry teams help their communities engage more deeply in conversations about identity and authenticity, rather than surface-level belonging?
- Your work brings together Biblical theology and psychological understanding. Where do you see harmony between the two—and where do they diverge when it comes to defining who we are?
- For someone listening who feels unsure about who they are or why they matter, what first step would you encourage them to take toward discovering their true identity?
